My Life as a Crypto Artist

What started as investing with pennies and checking my Bitcoin balance every month has slowly turned into what some may consider a part-time job. Crypto has fascinated me since I learned of it back in 2018 but I never thought I would get in as deep as I am today. I am not just referring to the investing part but the social part as well. I have amassed quite a diverse friend group consisting of people from all walks of life and from all over the globe. But it all started to snowball once I made my first meme coin purchase of Stopelon and created my alias Bidlo Perv. Read about Bidlo Perv here.

Shortly after I joined their telegram I started talking to some people and become a part of the Beefs shitcoin movement. From Beefs, I found Rize, the very first group I made friends in and where my journey as a crypto artist began. The group and I had all been proud Doge supporters and so it seemed fitting that I design something with Rize and Doge, and thus my first crypto drawing AND my first digital drawing was born:

Before this cursed piece of digital art I had only ever drawn with pencil and paper, my preferred medium was charcoal, so to draw digitally was very strange at first, but now it’s all I do!

From there I wanted more and so I began designing an entire sticker pack for the Rize group:

Those two images led to so much more. The sticker pack slowly grew in size and that is when I decided I wanted to take my avatar and make something great, stupid, cursed, but great! Thus the Bidlo’s Family NFT series was born, marking my first ever NFT to date and my first NFT sale to date!

It was not too much later that I decided to temporarily part ways to find other crypto investments (originally the thought was to find passive income to buy Rize daily). That is when I found Richie aka CryptoMischief and Drip. It was not long after that I parted ways entirely with Rize and devoted myself to Richie and many of the investments he was shilling. Some of these projects are still running strong to this day! Regardless, it was the success of a handful of projects that led to my second NFT series, the Infinite Glove of Wealth. The original still had the Rize logo! These gloves were modified a few times (as projects failed/rugged) and several variants were made including one with blue-chip coins (Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other top-listed coins) and one with top Fantom Ecosystem projects (at the time). With Richie’s help, I even sent an NFT of the Fantom Glove of Infinite Wealth to Harry Yeh, the now head of Tomb ecosystem!

Somewhere along the way friends and other people began to notice my art and the commissions started coming in. What began as simple profile picture commissions would slowly turn into full NFT art for NFT project collections such as the art I did for Asgardian Bulls and Node Bears. To be honest, the Node Bears was a fluke as I posted cursed fan art and everyone loved it, but hey it’s still part of the collection!

All this led up to my pivotal moment as a Crypto artist when a friend wanted me to create art for their project Spooked Beans. I took the bull by the horns and decided that since the project was “spooky” it needed to have a heavy metal feel to it, thus marking my first ever heavy metal font and my first heavy metal tee design

My first Heavy Metal Font

This design would later inspire the original Spicy Ginger metal tee design with the cow skull, thus starting the heavy metal tee designs.

While the Cow Skull design was not crypto related it was a very important piece of art for me. I wanted art for my stream that had a similar feel and looks to the Spooked Beans design. When it came time for cell shading and color, I thought back to coloring Spooked Beans and decided to keep it greyscale like my post-digital art. To be honest, I thought it looked better without color, but the people spoke and wanted color, oh well. That said it still needed some shading, so I experimented around with a pseudo-crosshatching style and my new shading technique was found. Now it is my go-to shading style!

I am still creating the heavy metal tee designs today and I will continue to make Crypto-inspired ones for some time now. While most of the top projects art done there is still a handful I plan to make designs for in the future. Now that Ethereum is much greener I may begin creating more NFTs again as well. I stopped turning much of my art into NFTs when the footprint of Ethereum mining was determined, but with their new proof of stake network, their footprint has been reduced significantly.
There will be no shortage of art here so if you would like to see more be sure to check out the gallery!
